This R40 / R50 generation of the Toyota Townace / Liteace is it’s first full redesign since 1982. They first appeared in October 1996, for the model year 1997 and were badged as TownAce, Liteace – and the Liteace Noah, and Townace Noah The Noah being the “wagon” versions with the more luxurious interior and ABS. The redesign moves the engine in front of the passenger compartment to a semi-bonnet / semi-cab over design. These vans maintained rear wheel drive, with an option full time four wheel drive system as seen on this example. A flat floor also allows for easier walk through between the front and back, and no engine hump to navigate. Several engines were available, and this one features the largest gas engine offered in these models, the 3S-FE – The same engine present in the 1st Generation Rav4s as well as the older Camry. Known to be a very robust 4 cylinder, fuel injected gas engine. This example is finished in a lovely blue metallic, with a gray / blue interior. It’s the 8 seater, which was the largest seating configuration available in these vans. These updated Townace and Liteace vans are worlds more comfortable, safe, and practical than their predecessors. Offering ABS brakes, front passenger, and driver side airbags.
